DEVA Party’s founding member, former soldier and academic, Metin Gürcan, has been sentenced to 16 years and 8 months in prison for obtaining secret documents.
Gürcan was being tried for espionage against foreign mission representatives.
ACCUSED OF OBTAINING SECRET MILITARY DOCUMENTS
The investigation about Gürcan was initiated by the Ankara Chief Public Prosecutor’s Office.
The indictment prepared by the Chief Public Prosecutor’s Office stated that Gürcan provided secret military documents to foreign mission representatives.
Arrested in 2021, Gürcan started to be tried without arrest in 2022 under judicial control condition.
Gürcan was arrested again with the announcement of the verdict in the case against him.
